SLOWLY BACKING AWAY.... As recently as yesterday, it looked like Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) was going to become a right-wing hero. The freshman congressman, who resigned under a cloud of scandal yesterday, was alleging a fanciful conspiracy involving congressional Dems, the White House, and a scheme to get health care reform passed. Conservatives could hardly believe their good fortune, and Rush Limbaugh touted Massa on his show yesterday.

But as details trickled out, and Massa began to look less like a whistleblower and more like a sick, confused man, some high-profile conservatives began to re-think their support.

Michelle Malkin urged the right not to trust Massa "any further than you can throw him." Jonah Goldberg said Massa's claims don't "pass the smell test." The Weekly Standard's John McCormack put it this way:

Obamacare opponents, like Glenn Beck, might want to think twice before indulging Massa and letting this Democratic creep become the posterboy of Obamacare opposition.

It was already self-evident that Eric Massa's story didn't add up.... The full story should come out eventually. And when it does, some conservatives may regret embracing Eric Massa.

Even Limbaugh, a day after touting Massa on the air, told listeners today that Massa is "a legitimate kook," a "loose cannon," and "a risk." He told Republicans, "Anybody who embraces this guy is going to get caught."

And what of Fox News' Glenn Beck, who is scheduled to have Massa on a special, hour-long guest on his television show today? A few hours ago, Beck compared Massa to a terrorist, who might be able to provide useful intelligence to conservatives.

Why Massa would allow himself to be used by a television personality who compares him to a terrorist is a mystery, but by all appearances, Massa isn't exactly thinking clearly right now.

Still, it only adds to the personal tragedy of Eric Massa. As he approaches rock bottom, he's burning bridges with his former allies on the left, and finding the drawbridge rising among his sought-out friends on the right.

Update: And things just got worse: "Former Rep. Eric Massa has been under investigation for allegations that he groped multiple male staffers working in his office, according to three sources familiar with the probe."

Massa's final days in the bunker; nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide as the noose tightens. This one's likely to end ugly.

Very ugly.

Talk about your rolling disclosures. Massa seems to be getting his crisis-management advice from John Edwards.

Downfall spoof soon to follow, I'm sure. Posted by: Snarky Bastard on March 9, 2010 at 3:10 PM | PERMALINK

But, at least this keeps us from having to bring up Jim Webb and Claire McCaskill for not supporting the summer jobs bill amendment of Senator Patty Murray. Just Luv our Majority?

When you find youself in a deep hole stop digging.

Actually if one were to read the crap being put out over the airways concerning this idoit, and no political tag was associated to him, it would, for all the world, sound like just one more GOPer being outed.

I guess empty head is not a term reserved only for those on the Right. Nauseating...

Perhaps this is the one singular time when BeckyBoy is right about something. Perhaps Massa is a terrorist.

With his appearance on Beck's crazy rant-fest tonight, it could just be that Massa is going to walk on set wearing a figurative vest of C4 and intends detonate Glenda, his blackboard and his entire band of lunatic fans before the end of the hour.

Or, at least, one could only hope this will happen.

Massa's in de cold cold ground?

Posted by: DocAmazing on March 9, 2010 at 3:31 PM | PERMALINK

This story is both sad and aggravating. We worked hard for Massa (my husband in particular with money, calls, support) because we knew that KUHL had to be removed and we liked what Massa had to say...especially about health care. Now it appears this man has medical issues for sure...the mental variety...someone needs to direct him to HELP before he digs the hole deeper...would we love it if he pulled Limpballs, and Beck in with him...for sure...but wish he could get the help he needs and hope for the 29th that there is someone out there we can TRUST!!!

He's a typical Republican predatory gay hypocrite, but in Democrat's clothing.

perhaps if we get really, really lucky, massa will come on to beck sometime during the show and grab him by the balls.
that might make both of them happy.

I think it's obvious that this was a liberal ploy from the beginning. I mean, why else would they have so thoroughly embraced the homosexual agenda other than to plant wicked thoughts in the brains of the good and make them do evil things like have sex in bathrooms and grope male staffers? And then, once they do anything liberals don't like, they turn everything on its head and toss the people under the bus for having fallen victim to their gay trap.

This is why God gave us marriage: Because married men who love their wives and stay faithful don't do things that force them to resign...well, unless they get caught taking bribes, but that's only necessary because liberals have made it so hard to be rich that it forces these hardworking heroes to do bad things. It was all mentioned in Das Kapital, I believe.

Needless to say, Obama is behind all of this and has been since quite a few years before he was born.

Trust me, there is a segment (a small one) of the conservative base that would consider pushing an (alleged) groper out to be exemplary party discipline. If they believe both 1) that Massa did harass a male staffer and 2) that the White House engineered his demise for that reason, they will credit Obama with spine they can respect, loathe him though they might. Fox needs to play this one carefully - the victimhood ploy could backfire.

Limbaugh wants a blow job from Massa.

Posted by: Sam Simple on March 9, 2010 at 3:58 PM | PERMALINK

The only reason the right has suddenly decided Massa is a 'terrorist' and not to be trusted is because he was groping men. If he were groping women, he'd already have a position at the RNC.

Well, sure, if he groped men. Republican men, which is to say Republicans, run around convinced that every gay man in America is secretly looking at their butts and will begin hitting on them at any moment.

Yes, we always knew you were the evil one of the pair, Shortstop.

And I don't see how it's possible that gay men could be staring at Republican asses, as they're always so busy staring at mine. It's really starting to creep me out, though I take it as a compliment.

Posted by: Doctor Biobrain on March 9, 2010 at 4:24 PM | PERMALINK

This just doesn't compute, somehow, as a gay scandal, but if it immunizes Massa against right-wing sainthood he should gladly embrace it. There's another shoe that needs to drop.

And, apparently, the Dem clothing is fairly new. Master Massa used to be a Repub (a much better, natural fit) before he changed course (or was drummed out -- both versions of the story are out there; take your pick).

Massa and Rahm has been animated by Apple Daily: Check it out:

Action starts at 40 sec. in. Should have told our team to get Rahm to be meaner.
