MONDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP.... Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.

* With a closely-watched Senate race in Nevada this year, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-Nev.) re-election prospects may depend, at least in part, on whether there's a Tea Party candidate splitting the right. At this point, the Tea Party of Nevada is apparently in the midst of an intense conflict with Tea Party Nation -- the latter believes the former is phony.

* In Illinois' key Senate race, Rep. Mark Kirk (R) launched his first television ad of the general election today. He uses the word "Republican," but also highlights the word "independent" in an on-screen graphic.

* Florida's gubernatorial campaign is eight months away, but neither state Attorney General Bill McCollum (R) nor state CFO Alex Sink (D) are especially well known.

* Carly Fiorina's (R) increasingly odd Senate campaign in California seems to have a real fondness for creating bizarre web videos.

* Corporate D.C. lobbyist Dan Coats (R), running for the Senate in Indiana, claims to hate the 2008 financial industry bailout. His lobbying record, however, paints a different picture.

* Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero's (D) gubernatorial campaign in Michigan got a boost on Friday when the state AFL-CIO endorsed him.

* And in 2012 news, Minnesotans have seen Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) up close for two terms, and a majority of them have no intention of supporting his presidential campaign. Probably not a good sign.

"I am Mark Kirk, an Independent Republican! I promise to vote 100% along party lines."

"I am Dan Coates, an Independent Republican! I opposed the bank bailouts! I just had to do so silently, while lobbying for The Bank of America."

Wow. That new ad from Fiorina is just crazy. Somebody over there needs to lay of the drugs.

I'm a Minnesotan and would do almost anything to get rid of Pawlenty, except put him in the White House.

Saturday's Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that he had taken $30,000 from a fund created to help vets by selling "Support Our Troops" license plates to help pay one of the political operatives.

The eleventh commandment , along with self preservation will make sly observations pretty darn unavoidable .
I for one salute You , AmusedOldVet , with a formal "He he he" . The signature of the lasting stain of pride and hubris , himself the smirkin' jerk .

And in 2012 news, Minnesotans have seen Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) up close for two terms, and a majority of them have no intention of supporting his presidential campaign.

But... but he's so moderate! He's like the Cream of Wheat of Republicans! Seriously, you look into his eyes, and you can just tell... here's a Republican who'd come very close to thinking about exploring the possibility of staking out a meaningful policy difference with Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, or Dick Cheney.

I mean, he wouldn't, but you can totally tell that under the right circumstances he almost might.

In Illinois' key Senate race, Rep. Mark Kirk (R) launched his first television ad of the general election today. He uses the word "Republican," but also highlights the word "independent" in an on-screen graphic.

Same thing happened when Mark Begich ran for Senate in Alaska in 2008, technically as a Democrat.

Is Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Lies-Like-A-Dog-Lander) trying to pass himself off as an Independent neoRepublican, or as a neoRepublican Independent? There's a whole world of difference between the two, y'know; the former being regularly stupid and evil, the latter incredibly so....

From Wikipedia
Mark Begich's father, Nick Begich, was the last Democrat to represent Alaska in the US House of Representatives, which he did until his October 1972 disappearance and presumed death during a flight from Anchorage to Juneau with then House Majority Leader Hale Boggs.
So , technically Mark Begich is a second generation democrat .

Carly Fiorina's (R) increasingly odd Senate campaign in California seems to have a real fondness for creating bizarre web videos.

Well, considering that Fiorina's main qualification is being a miserable failure as CEO of HP/Compaq, I suppose that she needs to do something to gain GOP cred.

Then again, being a miserable failure probably counts as a strong endorsement to GOP voters.

Florida's gubernatorial campaign is eight months away...and we have been bombarded with negative ads about Alex Sink about how she was a CEO and "not one of us " whoever "us " is . The response from the Florida Democratic Party.... * crickets* . I do hope they make one of their cash request calls so I cam rip them a new one.

"Carly Fiorina's (R) increasingly odd Senate campaign in California seems to have a real fondness for creating bizarre web videos."

This was less bizzare than the other one longer and hence less interesting.

I wonder about her hairstyle though, as a gay guy I only see that cut on lesbians and I am sure its no accident.

FRP: "So, technically Mark Begich is a second generation democrat."

There's no disputing that. The point is, when Begich was running for Senate in 2008, his campaign touted him as an "independent" and barely mentioned his party affiliation. The tactic is cowardly, but it makes sense. Which is why Kirk is using it in Illinois.
