TUESDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP.... Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.

* The GOP strategist behind the Willie Horton ads in 1988 is now going after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). The new spot accuses Reid of being supported by Arab slave-masters.

* Sen. Arlen Specter's (D-Pa.) primary campaign got a boost yesterday with an endorsement from the Pennsylvania chapter of the Service Employees International Union.

* Speaking of labor endorsements, Sen. Michael Bennet's (D-Colo.) primary campaign also got a boost yesterday with an endorsement from the Colorado chapter of AFSCME.

* On a related note, today is a key day for Bennet's campaign, with Colorado hosting its first round of precinct caucuses across the state.

* And in still more Colorado news, the latest survey from Public Policy Polling shows Bennet leading his Democratic primary challenger, Andrew Romanoff, by six, 40% to 34%.

* As the far-right wing of the GOP rallies against Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), former half-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), probably feeling a sense of obligation, has agreed to campaign alongside her former running mate later this month.

* In California, Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina supported cap-and-trade, right up until she started running for office as a Republican.

* And in North Carolina, the latest survey from Public Policy Polling shows no clear favorite in the crowded Democratic Senate primary. NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall (D) is out in front, but her support is only at 20%. Former state Senator Cal Cunningham (D) is second with 16%.

Whether Harry Reid is supported by slave masters or not is just a matter of opinion that we can disagree upon!

I once knew a person who was told by a person she knows that a person he knew was told first hand by another person that he witnessed J.D. Hayworth having sex with a horse and that he also witnessed Rick Santorum having sex with a dog. While we can disagree upon the accuracy of these witnesses, that is simply a matter of opinion upon which we can disagree and does not change the truth that Hayworth and Santorum engage in beastiality.

I am Grover Norquist and I support Carly Fiorini!

Carly has qualifications unique among persons who have run for the U.S. Senate over the course of our country's history.

In the pursuit of our goal of destroying the federal government and freeing corporate America from regulations, Carly's history of destroying multiple corporations at once shows that she will provide the leadership we so desparately need in Washington, D.C.

I have to admit, I was confused about why Palin would turn her back on the fire-breathing tea-brewing types, just to make nice with the guy she's been trashing to them for the last year, because "a sense of obligation" is not something I'd have thought her capable of.

But of course, the answer is what it always is with Palin. She'll get more attention this way, once again game-changing the horses in midstream to go with the flow of the fish who aren't dead etc. etc. etc.

The rats press the button more often if they don't always get the pellet!

...forgot to mention, you have to wonder if John McCain even wants to be re-elected at this point.

How well did it work for you the last time things got so desperate you brought Sarah Palin in to save your campaign, Senator? Did that end up making the narrative about your populist-conservative bona fides and your war record and your bipartisan campaign finance reform work (etc. etc.)?

Or did she body-check you away from the microphone and commandeer every last scrap of attention for the remainder of the race, without ever seeming to know or care about how it moved the polls?

see, Hayworth brings to mind the campaign strategy -- for which I give no small credit to the Republicans -- that I have been advocating Democrats to use for at least the last 10 years.

tAiO and I had it pretty well perfected at the old Carpetbagger. and the beauty is, that unlike Republicans, the Dem never has to lie about their opponent. take a race like Specter and Toomey, for example. the strategy is very simple -- Specter runs ads that have a split page, Toomey on one side, goats on the other, and the tag line "Vote Specter -- Because He Doesn't Fuck Goats." We never actually say that Toomey does. . .

if only I could get some Dems to try this. I really think this is a winner.

I want to see a lot more evidence before concluding that Palin is "probably feeling a sense of obligation." She's never shown herself capable of it before, and if she actually is now, that would be pretty big news.

husker - that was for example-sake only i am not a character witness for Specter, and cannot comment on any animals he may or may not have proclivities toward.

Would one of those "Arab slave-masters" be the Arab GW Bush was photographed KISSING ON THE MOUTH?
