STUPAK SCHEDULES, POSTPONES PRESS CONFERENCE, PART II.... Yesterday, Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) scheduled a Capitol Hill press conference for 11 a.m. (ET). It wasn't clear what he'd say at the event, but it had to do with his bloc's willingness to support health care reform.

Shortly before it began, Stupak cancelled.

Today, Stupak scheduled a Capitol Hill press conference for noon (ET). It wasn't clear what he'd say at the event, but it had to do with his bloc's willingness to support health care reform.

Shortly before it began, Stupak cancelled again.

Whether this is encouraging or discouraging is something of a mystery, but there's no shortage of activity on this front. Consider this an FYI, for now.

Maybe the Bart Bloc is disintegrating and Bart is losing whatever leverage he had. Maybe he now speaks for Bart alone.

My God, I can't wait to never hear Stupak's name again.

Aborting the abortion wars...

Got to say: I love the executive order idea.

It shuts everyone up a bit and wins the news cycle for Obama. I know, I know: shutting America up on abortion would be like getting Israel and Palestinians to smoke the peace pipe. But maybe we can get a few mellow minutes of silence with the executive order...

Obviously he is so scared that his shenanigans have cost him his chances at re-election he is auditioning for a new job. He wants to be Brett Favre's retirement planner.

Certainly wish that you, and everyone else whose job it is to inform the public, would kindly let us remain ignorant about the comings and goings of Mr. Stup(id)ak for at least the next 24 hours or so.

Bart's finally figured out that, since mostly what he wants is attention, he can get his jollies just by calling press conferences, and doesn't actually need to hold them, or come up with cockamamie things to say at them, like he'd been doing.

You gotta admit, it's much easier to take than when he'd actually HOLD the press conference and claim things about the Senate bill that were obviously wrong.

He lost Marcy Kaptur---and she's liable to bring another one or two away from teh Stoop-ack's darksider gang.

Hopefully, by evening coffee America will be using---in unison, of course---"stupak" as a superlative for "most epic of since-time-began epic fail...."

He doesn't seem to be able to carry these press conference plans to term.

MSNBC's reporting that Bart's a yes.

I still want to pay a large man to punch him in the nose.

"Bart's finally figured out that, since mostly what he wants is attention, he can get his jollies just by calling press conferences, and doesn't actually need to hold them,"

this was also a favourite technique of Senator Joe McCarthy. At a time when there were up to 7 editions of some newspapers each day McCarthy would capture a number of them by announcing and then deferring press conferences.

MSNBC's reporting that Bart's a yes.

So long as the price wasn't too high, I do take some amusement in the notion that for the past 72 hours, Stupak has been engaged in panicked, sweat-soaked begging of Pelosi to let him come in from the creaking limb he'd gotten himself out on the tip of, begging for any face-saving cover, however minimal, while Pelosi continued to get votes and made him squirm until the last minute.

I saw yesterday that Cao was listed as a vote "controlled by Stupak." It will be interesting to watch this evening to see if Cao follows Boehner or follows Stupak. One of many interesting subplots.

I really want to hear how he justifies this, given the corner he'd painted himself into. My guess is the totally meaningless (in the sense that it doesn't go beyond the Senate bill language) executive order.

It will be interesting to watch this evening to see if Cao follows Boehner or follows Stupak.

I agree with the person who predicted yesterday that Cao votes with the majority. His district needs this legislation, he knows it, he said so in November...but he wasn't going to go against his caucus unless the Democrats could pull off a win.

Stupak fits the profile of the classic, narcissistic/exhibitionistic personality disorder. What a prick.

What it does suggest is that Stupak is insane.
