AWKWARD.... Nevada Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle is on Capitol Hill today, hoping to convince party leaders and her would-be colleagues that she's not stark raving mad. As part of her tour, Angle will be introduced to GOP senators and party officials by her home-state senator, Nevada's John Ensign.

[A]pparently not all Senate Republicans are thrilled with Ensign's move to bring Angle's at the weekly gathering.

A senior GOP Senate source said Ensign didn't officially inform those who run the lunch, which Ensign used to do before he was forced to resign from his leadership post.

"This is Ensign going rogue in an attempt to rehabilitate his soiled reputation by latching onto someone popular with Nevada voters," said the source.

And what does Angle think of her Senate escort? Late last year, Angle responded to Ensign's humiliating sex scandal by telling reporters, "If your wife can't trust you, how can I trust you?"

So, the party isn't thrilled with Angle; Angle isn't thrilled with Ensign; and Ensign isn't scoring any points with his own GOP colleagues.

What an awkward situation for everyone involved.

"If your wife can't trust you, how can I trust you?"

First, and only so far, smart thing I've heard Angle say.

Unhappy hour

Any idea what brand of tea is being served?

Angle is popular with voters? Really?

Posted by: TR on June 15, 2010 at 2:05 PM | PERMALINK

It's only awkward if the media portray it as awkward--if they cover it at all. That Ensign is still even in the Senate given what he has done spotlights how incredible is the ongoing double standard at play here.

Imagine if Democrats had done/said your pick of the items coming from the other side of the aisle as of late. Of course, as with all things, IOKIYAR and it's always Good News for Republicans ™. SSDD.

why should anybody trust anybody who has anything to do with Las Vegas?

I think that this time it won't matter if the media doesn't cover the visit so much. The DNC and the blogs will, and the media will have to eventually out of sheer necessity just to mask their growing irrelevance if nothing else.

Angle kind of looks like the woman he was boffing, no?

Posted by: dcsusie on June 15, 2010 at 2:32 PM | PERMALINK

Sounds like Ensign is looking to show Angle exactly how she can trust him, nudge, nudge.

Man, that's one big-ass tent those Republicans got there!

dcsusie, you beat me to it. It's mean, evil, bad, nasty, irrelevant and petty, but boy is it fun! Yes, I think "scoring" is the operative term here; it could well be that Ensign just wants a little quality time with someone he fancies to be a hot babe.

Well, maybe not everyone.
I'm having a blast.
Then again, I'm not "involved."

Projection is always awkward. Almost anything that a Republican says, and many Democrats say, as well, is projection. When pointing fingers, be sure that you are not revealing your own vulnerabilities. That is why Democrats do not take full advantage of the many opportunities provided by their opponents. Lobbyists know that you must spread the money around among all the principals to avoid the obvious appearance of bias. That Obama can be lumped in with recipients of oil company and Wall St. bank money to his campaign weakens his perception as a trust-buster. Lobbyists and political strategists know how to play the game, and most politicians don't fully understand how they are being gamed. I like Obama, but I see that he is weakened by his having received lots of support from his targets.

Does Angle's husband know about this?
