WHEN EVEN PAT BUCHANAN THINKS YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR.... This week, disgraced former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R), hoping to make the case against the proposed Park51 community center, compared Muslim Americans to Nazis. On MSNBC yesterday, Pat Buchanan -- yes Pat Buchanan -- said Gingrich went too far.
Buchanan said Gingrich is just being a "political opportunist," hoping to keep up with former half-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in advance of the 2012 presidential primaries.
"How do you get more attention than Sarah Palin, who's very good at this, is to go two steps further," Buchanan said. "I mean, I think bringing the Nazis into the argument is always absurd in American politics because there is no valid comparison there."
As much as I appreciate Buchanan's criticism, I can't help but notice how odd it is to hear him to say "bringing the Nazis into the argument is always absurd in American politics." A year ago, it was none other than Pat Buchanan who compared non-existent "death panels" as part of health care reform to "Hitler's Third Reich, marrying Social Darwinism to Aryan racial supremacy." He's also offered some bizarre commentary on Hitler's intentions during World War II.
With that in mind, when Buchanan thinks Gingrich has gone too far with Nazi rhetoric, you know ol' Newt has pushed the envelope.

You have to feel for Pat.
Hitler and the Nazi's bring back some really bad memories for him.
Did you know his Grandfather died in a Concentration Camp?
It's true!
He fell from the Guard Tower.

Cat fight!
So, who's creepier? Paleo bigot Buchanan or Neo cynic Gingrich?

For folks who wonder why I suggest that it would be good if Rauf (who is a Sufi) disclaimed any Saudi money for the project:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/17/opinion/17dalrymple.html?ref=opinion
"...about a decade ago, a Saudi-financed religious school, or madrasa, was built at the end of the path leading to [a Sufi shrine in Pakistan]. Soon its students took it upon themselves to halt what they see as the un-Islamic practices of Rahman Baba’s admirers. When I last visited it in 2003, the shrine-keeper, Tila Mohammed, described how young students were coming regularly to complain that his shrine was a center of idolatry and immorality.
“My family have been singing here for generations,” he told me. “But now these madrasa students come and tell us that what we do is wrong. They tell women to stay at home. This used to be a place where people came to get peace of mind. Now when they come here they just encounter more problems.”
"Then, one morning in early March 2009, a group of Pakistani Taliban arrived at the shrine before dawn and placed dynamite packages around the squinches supporting the shrine’s dome. In the ensuing explosion, the mausoleum was destroyed, but at least nobody was killed. The Pakistani Taliban quickly took credit..."
As a Sufi who knows about Saudi funding for Sufi oppression, rejecting Saudi money ought to be an easy call for Rauf: why won't he make it?

all this means is buchanan doesn't like gingrich or has some political goal in opposing him on this. if palin or some other buchanan sweetheart had said it he'd explain why muslims are completely equivalent to nazis.

Both Buchanan and Gingrich are cynical enough to know that their base is one big kneejerk reaction after another.
One would think that sooner or later, their base would catch on that they are constantly being played, but they never do.

Good to see that Pat's new meds are beginning to work for him.
It's really amazing what they can do with anti-psychotics these days.

One has to wonder when Pat Buchanan criticizes Newt Gingrich for comparing Muslims to Nazis, is it because he thinks it is an insult to Muslims or because he thinks it is an insult to Nazis.

All it tells me is Pat Buchanan is competing against Newt in 2012. Besides, between the two of them, they've put so much heat and pressure on the envelope it has become a shipping crate.

"Buchanan said Gingrich is just being a "political opportunist"
The political opportunity, of course, is to show GOP primary voters he is sufficiently bigoted.

LOL! Buchanan is pissed that Gingrich is poaching his territory. "Back off, Newt! I own the Nazi craziness!!"

The irony meter has exploded. Again.

Is it just me, or do right-wing activists have a rotation on who gets to be the "rational one" for each new ginned-up hoax? Do they actually collude on this? "Look, I'm not a knee-jerk right-winger, I'm a thinking person. I took my turn disagreeing with the hoax eight hoax's back after all. Can't get more critical or independent than that."
Glenn Beck was the go-to thinking man's wing-nut on California's gay marriage ruling, now Buchanan? I don't buy either of them (or the previous iterations) -- it's too pat.

I think kahner's surmise that Buchanan said this because he personally can't stand Gingrich is probably correct.

I am bored with Nazi's we need new villains. And forget Bin Ladin, he is old news.
i'm thinking of the religous fanatics who destroyed Constaninople, burned the city, raped the women and men, set up their own ruler and looted the city for the next 50 years.
the Roman Catholics in 1204. the 4 th crusade,
yes, I know the Pope apologized for it but they are such great villains and they destroyed such a beautiful city,
let's put Nazi's back onto a shelf. they are boring.

No! Nazis were awesome! They were just a bunch of fun-loving, strudel-eating stumblebums.
That's how they were on Hogan's Heroes, anyway. And TV would never portray them that way if they truly were the 20th century's most evil criminal enterprise.
