'NOBODY'S LIFE IS AFFECTED BY PLANNED PARENTHOOD'.... I don't think O'Reilly thought this one through.

Conservative activists have long been pushing for cultural riders and, with Republicans back in control the House, have a chance to push them forward. "Why can't you slash Planned Parenthood and NPR and these -- these non-vital programs? Why can't you slash them?" Fox News host Bill O'Reilly demanded of Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) Thursday evening.

"Well, we're talking about health care. We're talking about education," Rangel replied.

"Health care is another matter," O'Reilly said. "That has to be taken very methodically because people's lives are affected. Nobody's life is affected by NPR. Nobody's life is affected by Planned Parenthood. These are options."

Now, I don't know if O'Reilly even understands what Planned Parenthood does, or the services it provides. But for those who rely on its facilities for access to contraception, family planning services, pap smears, and cancer screenings, it's fair to say Planned Parenthood affects the lives of millions in positive and important ways.

Indeed, O'Reilly's concerned about cuts to "health care," but not concerned about cuts to Planned Parenthood. How is it that any rational person could consider family planning and health screenings as being unrelated to health care?

"for access to contraception, family planning services, pap smears, and cancer screenings"

On your list, Bill thinks (1) and (2) are bad, he doesn't need (3) and he'll get his cancer screenings somewhere else, thank you very much.

If it doesn't effect him personally, it doesn't exist.

'Rational' being the operative word.

because the population served is irrelevant to these fascists' concerns. the fewer of those types of people there are, the better...

"How is it that any rational person . . . "

No rational person could. Perhaps Mr. O'Reilly is unaware that abortions are only a very small part of what Planned Parenthood does. Perhaps he knows, but has chosen to ignore that fact for propaganda purposes. Perhaps he's not a rational person.

I know which way I'd bet.

It always amazes me how conservatives can be desperately worried about embryos but not give a shit about actual babies, like the ones whose mothers can get prenatal care and well baby visits at Planned Parenthood.

Well, we all knew that BillO thinks that middle- and low-income women are nobodies. This just reinforces it.

Because Planned Parenthood is only for teh wimminz and therefore unnecessary.

I'm married to one of the 100s of 1000s of "fat cats" who took a 75 percent pay cut from the private sector to take a job throwing deadbeats off the public dole, who may soon see their paychecks stop, while their mortgages continue. And let me say, it's misperceptions like O'Reilly's that will be corrected once we have a shutdown.

It's politically correct to hate government at the moment, and call it wasteful, that is, until people see all the countless ways they rely on that tiny sliver of the non-military, non-entitlement part of the budget that isn't off the table. Since no one is going to make that argument in public, the only way they ever get to see that is when the GOP does something stupid like shut down the government.

When the "non-essential" part of the government the GOP wants to take an ax to grinds to a halt, the public will get a taste of all the things they take for granted that will suddenly disappear. They'll know when the family vacation to the Grand Canyon they RSVP'd 2 years ago gets canceled, student loans stop, or they try to get their fishing license, or go camping.

I worked for PBS/NPR during the '95 assault, and it was eye-opening to see that the entire budget for the humanities - research, public broadcasting, everything - could double if we cut the new fleat of billion dollar B-1 bombers from 11 to 10.

It's easy to believe Planned Parenthood doesn't do anything - until all those people show up for their exams and birth control. How terrified will the GOP when they realize how many unwanted "shutdown" babies are conceived to parents with a very tangible reason to now vote Democratic.

"Planned Parenthood" is a dog-whistle word that means "Abortion On Demand for Tramps and Harlots Who Fornicate." Just like "Obama" is a dog-whistle word that means "Socialist Kenyans [insert epithet here]"

It seems to me that Republicans think they get to decide who the "real Americans" are - and in their minds, real Americans don't go to Planned Parenthood clinics and they don't listen to public radio. And in the future, real Americans are not going to need Medicare or Medicaid. All the problems of real Americans can be solved with more tax cuts for the rich - is that what Republicans believe now?

Nobody's life, who watches my show, is affected by NPR. Nobody's life, who watches my show, is affected by Planned Parenthood.

Fixed that for you Bill.

We absolutely, positively will not give you $1 over the $8 billion more we gave you over your starting offer - take it or leave it!

Posted by: Harry Reid on April 8, 2011 at 11:05 AM | PERMALINK

Had only Planned Parenthood recommended the useage of and given away free loofahs.

Posted by: berttheclock on April 8, 2011 at 11:08 AM | PERMALINK

I"ll split the difference - $40 billion.

Posted by: Boehner on April 8, 2011 at 11:14 AM | PERMALINK

I bet O'Rally's Mom wishes abortion were more easily available way back when.

For the 9,999,999,999,999,999th time, Planned Parenthood does not provide abortions.

We can thank the (Jekyll and ) Hyde Amendment for that.
PP should, but because of that sanctimonious asshole, and his fellow mysogenists, it doesn't.

Come on. Split the baby.

Posted by: Harry Reid on April 8, 2011 at 11:18 AM | PERMALINK

Split the baby? So we're at $39 now?

Okay. $40.

Posted by: Boehner on April 8, 2011 at 11:20 AM | PERMALINK

No - you split the baby.

Posted by: Reid on April 8, 2011 at 11:21 AM | PERMALINK

When my wife and I were both in grad school living on tiny stipends, we relied on PP for affordable birth control pills. Our health insurance was the student health care plan which didn't cover them.

I'd dare say our lives would have quite possibly taken a different path if there had been no Planned Parenthood.

Posted by: Daryl P Cobranchi on April 8, 2011 at 11:22 AM | PERMALINK

Okay - splitting the baby between $39 and $40 billion gets us to $39.5. Rounding up, that's $40.

Posted by: Boehner on April 8, 2011 at 11:22 AM | PERMALINK

O'Reilly talks without thinking, so this isn't terribly important.

Posted by: Rathskeller on April 8, 2011 at 11:27 AM | PERMALINK

I wish everyone who has used Planned Parenthood for whatever would stand up and shout. I'll bet there are even some members of Congress who have. It's clear this is just an extension of the Rs plan to ban abortion.

O'Reilly's takes his marching orders from the pope as well as from Rupert and Roger. Who gives a fuck what he "thinks"?

Posted by: Squeaky McCrinkle on April 8, 2011 at 12:11 PM | PERMALINK

The tide goes in. The tide goes out. Who knows why?

That tells you all you need to know about O'Reilly's intellectual prowess.

Posted by: Texas Aggie on April 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM | PERMALINK

"Nobody's life is affected by 'FOX News'. Nobody's life is affected by Rupert Murdoch. These are options."
There, BillO, fixed it for you!
