THURSDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP.... Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* The first debate for Republican presidential candidates is tonight in South Carolina, but the Associated Press and Reuters won't cover it because of media restrictions being imposed by News Channel and the South Carolina Republican Party.

* We've known for months that Rep. Mike Pence (R) was running for governor in Indiana, but today, he made it official. He was supposed to announce on Monday, but delayed in light of the Osama bin Laden news.

* To state Democrats' delight, Nevada state Treasurer Kate Marshall (D) announced yesterday she'll compete in the 2nd district's special election this year. It will be a multi-candidate free for all, though, with multiple Dems and Republicans running at the same time.

* A new WMUR poll in New Hampshire shows Mitt Romney continuing to lead the GOP field in the first primary state. The former Massachusetts governor has 36% support, with Donald Trump second with 11%.

* Fox News wants Mike Huckabee, one of the network's paid employees, to make up his mind about the 2012 presidential campaign. The Republican network has reportedly given Huckabee until the end of May to make a decision.

* Michele Bachmann has not yet decided whether to run for president, but she said publicly this week she wants God to give her and her husband "a special anointing on how to put our team together."

* To the disappointment of the state GOP, former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land (R) will not take on Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D) next year. Michigan Republicans are still without a top-tier Senate candidate.

* And in case Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.) didn't have enough trouble, former Rep. Elizabeth Furse is now talking about taking Wu on in a Democratic primary next year. State Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian is already running against the incumbent, who recently acknowledged struggling with mental health issues.

Interestingly, I also pray to God that Michelle Bachmann is the 2012 GOP candidate for POTUS.

Funny to think of a god who'd spend time setting up the losing candidate.

hey Bachmann if god's on your side against everybody else why do you need people to pray to him to bring people to you. Wouldn't he just send em without any prodding. Hell why not just send a few angels to do your bidding while he's at it.

Maybe "Gawd" will anoint her (and her husband) with some brain tissue.

Regardless, please run Michelle Bachman!
We need the Info-tainment.

If Bachmann wants to go all Biblical on us, she can get herself to a nunnery. Preferably one of those with a vow of silence. That would be a big help.

Michele Bachmann really is Carrie's mother.

Hold on a second while I lift my leg to 'anoint' the Bachmann's.

Funny that all the responses so far have been about the Flake's announcement of getting God's anointment. I was going to add my bit to the discussion, but everyone else has already said all that is necessary.

On a slight tangent, maybe someone should put a metal bush in her yard hooked up to a gas line with a banner saying, "Run Michelle, Run." If she wants a sign from heaven, nothing says message from heaven like a burning bush.

Michele Bachmann has not yet decided whether to run for president, but she said publicly this week she wants God to give her and her husband "a special anointing on how to put our team together."

Insert "santorum" joke here.

I recently spoke to God and she said that Bachmann should forget about it.

Rats, another sleepless night ahead.

Michelle,

Thank you for consulting me on a plan for you future in politics. Here is what I think you should do:

1. Long Walk.
2. Short pier.
3. ????
4. Profit.

Look at my updated list. None of these guys will make in to the pinnacle.
Republican losses in the 1998 mid-term elections, Gingrich resigned both his Speakership and his congressional seat. Since resigning his seat, Gingrich has maintained a career as a political analyst and consultant. He continues to write works related to government and other subjects, such as historical fiction.
Newt Gingrich - The author of the failed "Contract with America" and lead Republican "Trickle down" that never trickled! He's now a terminated FOX commentator.
Here's the rest of the possible runners and their brief resumes.
Rick Santorum - Who?
Haley Barbour - A racist Lobbyist lawyer!
Mitch Daniels - An attorney with arrest record!
John Thune - He has voted against the Health Care Reform Act!
Jon Huntsman - No! An unknown but known to form PAC's to hide funding for candidates!
Ron Paul - Bigot's father and right-winged extremist!
Herman Cain - FOX with no experience!
Michelle Bachmann - No- substance, self centered gold seeker, bat crazy TEA party-er!
Rick Perry - A career politician who forces his religious beliefs on Texans.
John Ensign - A straight forward man with Cynthia Hampton in an extramarital called for Clinton's resignation.
Gary Johnson - He used marijuana for pain control from 2005 to 2008..
Jeb Bush - He's a Bush!!
Chris Christie - Lobbyist Lawyer!
Mitt Romney - He's definitely in the race and currently leading the pack. But he's a lawyer and usually comes in third or fourth!
Mike Huckabee - Coming in second and still hasn't made up his mind? Let's remember he's a FOX commentator with consistent second to last place placements!
Tim Pawlenty - Another definite, though non commited to running, a lawyer with limited exposure and unknown except to Radical Rightist!
Each will run by bashing the President and all the great legislation passed by the 111st Congress.
Sarah Palin - Self-centered gold seeker with no substance!
