February 27, 2010 12:00 PM And Now, Middlebury’s Video

When Yale University announced its admission video, “Why I Choose Yale,” to the world last month, the dean of admissions, Jeff Brenzel, said “I expect that there will be parodies and attempts at imitation.” While actually the video appeared to produce mostly ridicule and disparagement, we’ve now got at least one attempt at imitation.

On Feb 20 Middlebury College students released this video:

Note that this is not a directly analogous production. Presumably Middlebury College—a school in which about 70 percent of students are white, located in a small Vermont town—wouldn’t dare produce an admissions movie that was “a rap/R&B exploration of granola Middlebury culture.”
