In an effort to save money due to fiscal constraints imposed by the state, the University of California, Berkeley plans to eliminate five sports teams. According to the school:
At the end of this academic year, baseball, men’s and women’s gymnastics, and women’s lacrosse will no longer represent UC Berkeley in intercollegiate competition. In addition, men’s rugby will transition to a varsity club sport, a newly designated [and clearly kind of fake] status at UC Berkeley.
No word yet on whether or not the university system still plans to pay $320 million to renovate Berkeley’s football stadium or spend $11,500 a month to rent a Bay Area mansion for the president.
