Columbia is overrun by drugs.
Oddly, this time it’s not Colombia, the famous Spanish-speaking narco-state in South America. No no, it’s Columbia, the 250-year old university in Manhattan. According to a piece in Gawker, Columbia University is apparently the best place to score drugs in New York. As Jeff Neumann writes:
The drugs are easy to find. Just ask your dorm’s resident weed dealer and he can probably set you up with some pills, and maybe even some cocaine for the post-exam blowout. Or, if you’re Owen, just hang around the library long enough and “James” will show up, bottle in hand, for “study drug time.” Normally James will use his Adderall prescription “sparingly” — for parties, exams, or to impress the ladies — but he’s taking this school shit seriously and has thrown his stash of amphetamines into the mix to kick some ass during finals.
This information comes from an article by Daniel D’Addario in the Daily Beast about how students at Columbia use a lot of Adderall, the stimulant prescribed for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and often used as a study drug.
No doubt students at Columbia take their share of illicit stimulants while studying, but it seems hard to believe that their usage is really any different than elsewhere.
Also note that this notion of Columbia University as drug paradise is totally not true if you’re looking to buy marijuana; delivery services are often very reluctant to travel that far uptown. [Image via]
