Matters of National Security
by Daniel Luzer

“Dismissing complaints from some members that Congress had more pressing matters,” as the Associated Press dryly noted in its article about the matter, earlier this month a House subcommittee agreed to legislation to create a formal college football playoff. The goal of the legislation is to force college football to move from an informal series of bowls to a playoff system that will determine a national college football champion team.
Maybe it’s a little more pressing, though. A new analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics reveals that the Bowl Championship Series, which supports retaining the bowl system, has spent $670,000 lobbying Congress since 2003.
