The Hoodie Threat
Earlier this week Richard Cohen wrote a controversial column in the Washington Post arguing that it totally made sense for George Zimmerman to be suspicious of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin because Martin was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, a “uniform we all recognize.”
In reaction many pointed out that, well no, that is not a valid reason for suspicion. Law-abiding people wear such garments all the time. There’s no better way to explain this than a picture, however. Here’s my favorite, created by the medical students at Howard University:
