Thomas Bethell worked at the Washington Monthly as an editor from 1975 to 1977. Educated at Oxford, he worked for Harper's Magazine and now writes a monthly column for the American Spectator. Mr. Bethell has written several books, including The Noblest Triumph: Property and Prosperity Through the Ages (St. Martin's Press, 1999).
