February 24, 2012 6:11 PM Day’s End and Weekend Watch

By Ed Kilgore

Before heading off to a Lenten Writers Group session, I’ll offer a few reads I didn’t get around to giving the fully bloggy treatment:

* In a new paper for the Progessive Policy Institute, Anka Lee explores America’s stake in stronger rights for China’s workers.

* Speaking of China, Monthly intern Siyu Hu notes today at College Guide that complaints from the majority Han ethnic group are leading to a review of university affirmative action policies in that country, just as the U.S. Supreme Court takes up the same subject.

* Mitt Romney, bless his little heart, brags that he and his wife own not one, not two, but four American vehicles, including “a couple of Cadillacs.”

* Hollywood Lobby poohbah Chris Dodd extends “olive branch” to Silicon Valley after industry’s drubbing on SOPA/PIPA.

* Herman Cain says he “loved” Pete Hoeckstra’s borderline-racist Super Bowl ad, calls for more like it.

* Rep. Darrell Issa to headline kickoff banquet at this weekend’s California Republican State Convention. Unclear whether it’s a stag dinner.

This weekend we are featuring a new Guest Blogger: Matthew Zeitlin, a very bright young man who has contributed to The Daily, The New Republic, and The Atlantic, and is currently a senior at Northwestern University. Please give him a warm welcome.

I’ll see you next week.

Selah.

Have no fear. Uncle Foster Freiss will be dispensing aspirin pills to the gals at the door.

I must say, I'm really digging the rotating "guest weekend blogger" shots. As long as the guests keep bringing it as I've seen to date, it seems like a great way for us readers to hear some new voices, and help develop the bench.

Agreed JS and it gives Ed sometime for his life.

Both Cadillacs are what Ann Romney drives. Does that make her a "double Welfare Queen"? Or is she both: a welfare queen and a ghetto drug lord?

Could Herman Cain be anymore shit-for-brains-pandering-stupid.

Don't be ragging on Ann Romney. She has to have a Cadillac for her house in the California hood and another for her house in the Massachusetts hood. They are both SUVs. Mitt's two American cars are pretty classic. A lot of Americans have classic old cars in the garage, but if my wife gave me a vintage Mustang I would remember if she gave it to me for Christmas or my birthday. I wonder if Mitt drives his old cars?

Please tell the Capcha folks that my keyboard doesn't do Hebrew.
