June 29, 2012 5:53 PM Day’s End and Weekend Watch

By Ed Kilgore

Unless you are, say, Eric Holder or Jeffrey Toobin or Antonin Scalia, the week didn’t go nearly as badly as it initially appeared it might. Holder and Toobin are young enough to get over it and bounce back, though I don’t know about “Nino.” Here are the remains of this particular day and week:

* Michelle Obama cites Jesus as a model for active citizenship. This will enrage those who think the Gospels teach homophobia, property rights, submission by women, and American Exceptionalism.

* Romney says Americans should get “as much education as they can afford.” Sometimes he’s honest, after all.

* Fox News is shocked Justice Department will not prosecute Attorney General in pursuance of House contempt resolution.

* In reaction to Court validation of ACA, Bobby Jindal professes to fear for Americans who don’t want to “eat tofu” or “drive a Chevy Volt.” C’mon, governor, we know you are not that stupid. Besides, tofu can be made very tasty.

* Allen West calls Nancy Pelosi “delusional” as he bobbed and weaved to avoid alien Muslim death rays. Okay, I made that last part up.

And in quasi-non-political news:

* PETA celebrates “sexiest vegetarian celebrities.” Speaking of tofu.

OK, that’s it for the week. Given the Cult of Ryan that’s justifiably aborning after his frequent interventions at PA on my behalf during a recent bout with family medical emergencies, I am pleased to announce that Ryan Cooper is on point for Weekend Blogging beginning tomorrow.

I’ve got a series of church-related social functions on tap this weekend, but first: thanks to my wife, I will indeed attend Lucinda Williams’ performance in Big Sur tonight! Can’t wait. Take it away, Lucinda!

Selah.

    You’ll probably enjoy the concert.

For you it will probably be much more enjoyable than one which die-hard Republicans would attend if John Roberts were headlining.

(i’m convinced the GOP pols and opinion makers (spin practitioners, all) are convinced that GOP friendly voters are absolute chumps and will respond quite predictably to crazy or rationalized, calmly explained crazy.)

Personally, I think anyone who doesn't have contempt for this Congress has no taste at all...

When you said THE CULT OF RYAN, I was praying that meant you had gotten Paul Ryan to sit in this weekend.

    THAT would have been fun!

I like Lucinda Williams; however, I like Mary Gautier much much more. Mary Gautier is a lot like Lucinda Williams, only much, much better. Lucinda Williams is much, much worse, although I do like her. Therefore, if you enjoy listening to Lucinda Williams's music, I would recommend that you listen to Mary Gauthier's similar yet far superior music, as you are likely to get much, much more enjoyment out of doing so.

Doubtless, in the public schools of Texas, which will have new standards as soon as possible:

"nesforce tutor". Always appropriate, our Craptcha.

Lucinda Williams live in Big Sur? Can't get much better than that!

you're not going to "go on back to Jackson" are you?

when she's good, she's really good.

Alien Muslims use particle accelerators rather than rays, but you already knew that.

Bobby "Chevy Volt" Jindal: I drive a Honda Fit these days - normal mpg for our rural area is in the high 30s, sometimes 40-42 on trips (if you don't drive like a maniac). I am still allowed to buy fatback in South/North Carolina grocery stores. And they let me keep my shotgun, the dog, and the pickup truck. And my first wife.
