It’s turning into a dreadfully slow news afternoon, so just for grins, thought I give you a taste of a Politico piece on the “Top 5 Bloopers” of the famous U.S. House of Representatives’ Republican class of 2010.
There’s New York’s Anne Marie Beurkle, who recently insisted the “Fast and Furious” brouhaha was the” issue first and foremost on the minds of my constituents.” Then there’s Wisconsin’s Sean Duffy, who complained at a town hall meeting about the insufficiency of his $170,000 congressional salary. A bit earlier—in fact, before he was even sworn in—California’s Jeff Denhem greeted the advent of the Tea Party Era in Washington by holding a glitzy fundraiser at the W. hotel.
Minnesota’s Chip Cravaak announced last year he’d be splitting his weekends between his district and New Hampshire, where his wife and kids were relocating. But my favorite is Maryland’s Andy Harris, who interrupted an orientation meeting for new members by repeatedly bitching about how long he was having to wait for his government-supplied health insurance plan to kick in.
Hey Andy, there’s a vibrant, individual market for private health insurance out there! Show some responsibility!

if this collection of gaffes and goofs were the only notables from the horrid GOP House class of 2010, we'd not only be lucky but the nation as a whole would be in much better shape. The real blooper was a governmental disaster of proportions that may take years to play out.
