Blog
It’s been nice and lively on the political news front this morning, for once. And there’s more to share for your midday nourishment, which you might need since Twitter’s been down for a while:
* Union-Leader forcefully joins chorus of those demanding that Romney release his tax returns.
* Details begin to emerge about three Obama-Romney debates; one will have a town hall format.
* Long, very positive Deseret News retrospective on Romney’s Olympics tenure allows as how some Utah folk don’t recognize the guy who’s running for president.
* New England Journal of Medicine study shows Medicaid expansion would likely lower death rates among poor people. Kinda figures, doesn’t it?
* Salon’s Alex Seitz-Wald reports Tea Folk are expressing anger at Republican critics of Michele Bachmann. That kinda figures, too, doesn’t it?
And in non-political news:
* SI’s Cazaneuve projects Olympic results.
Back after an actual lunch break.

I really suspect that Obama will be Much better than Mitt in debates
Hopefully, Mitt will stumble badly
Bu8t, I suspect a 'Town Hall' will blunt Obama's advantage

My congressman, Bill Cassidy (a doctor, no less), says there's no evidence that being on Medicaid improves people's health.

The tea party people, of coure, are great defenders of the Constitution. That's why you have them organizing recall petitions for Senators and Congresspeople . . . or, wait a minute--the Constitution doesn't allow that, does it?

Do you really think there will be more than one debate?
schtick on July 26, 2012 3:29 PM:
Obama will be going into the debate with his hands tied behind his back and a blindfold on. He won't be allowed to ask Willard about anything he has ever done in his life nor will Obama be allowed to tell any truth. I'm willing to bet Obama still mops the floor with Willard.
crapcha....legingth adjudged....oh yes.

Just wanted to add that I was watching the closing bell at the stock channel CNBC with guest Howard Schultz of Starbucks--Chairman and CEO--and host Maria Bartiromo--she ever the self-styled major detractor of President Obama--she is almost mean-spirited about it--well anyway, Howard Schultz, in talking about adding 1200 additional Starbuck stores, did not fall into her game of maligning the president for statements about business.
The CEO of Starbucks notably said that the president was quoted out of context there in comments about business having many helpers in being established-- and that in conversations and dealings President Obama is pro-business and not at all what Maria the detractor (my words) was suggesting.
And I just loved it. Further, Mr. Schultz spoke of the divisive politics between political parties in Washington as being a main issue, needing more cooperative efforts.
Later in the program Congressman Barney Franks had to set Maria straight as she interrupted him , mocked him--and he had to refute her, then state his remarks more than once--as she sat skeptically about proprietary discussion--and I will say she slurred her words, looked pretty bad, tried to overtalk him endlessly.
I think this clear Republican partisan-- Maria Bartiromo-- should be replaced. This is what she does. She is relentless as evidenced that she tried to use an irrelevant 'too big to fail' interview with the ambitious Republican middle class hater and social safety net ender Rep. Paul Ryan as cogent--and it was not. I could tell that immediately.
Bartiromo routinely rudely interrupted Congressman Franks--a brilliant guy, with strong knowledge of financial reform, and she pretty much needed redirection and basic financial education. She was going for a gotcha interview.
Bartilomo really should be fired for her divisiveness. She talks in generalities and--interestingly-- slurs her words. He had to keep saying .excuse me., you changed the subject, etc. And she was screaming at him-- he then stated you are not going to do this, or cut me off, or say I condemned anyone. She sat there looking ridiculously partisan and like a viper ready to strike.
I have seen this before with her on Morning Joe, and on CNBC. I watch often. Daily even.
She ended with "whew" as if the problem lay with Congressman Franks, when he indeed ended the brutal interview by saying that was an awful interview today. (my words)

“I think Mitt is trying to find that middle ground where he can get elected without compromising his values,” Bennion said. “That’s just not an environment that’s going to play to Mitt’s strengths, when voters who are nowhere near his intellectual level are going to decide.”
i didn't know that mitt actually had any values, but i guess i'm just one of those voters nowhere near his intellectual level ...

The Deseret News article about Romney and the SLC Olympics failed to mention that the Federal Govt. provided 1.5 billion to bail out the troubled Olympics. I wonder why they didn't think that was important information for their readers?
