Political Animal

Revived a bit after long home remedy for sleep deprivation last night. Didn’t miss much overnight, since with exception of scattered primaries, news is much like yesterday’s. But here are some distinctive tidbits:

* Shooter at Family Research Council HQ in DC injures security guard and is arrested. Fox News claims shooting politically motivated, but no confirmation of that from police.

* Ben Smith piece on “meanness” of presidential campaign does not mention Romney’s attacks on fictional Obama welfare position. Guess that’s “substantive,” eh?

* Dowd calls Ryan “Scrooge disguised as a Pickwick.”

* Retail sales up in July for first time in four months.

* TAP’s Jamelle Bouie has interesting piece on Americans For Prosperity’s new concern troll ad about Obama’s performance.

And in non-political news:

* AOL lists worst companies to work for, with Dish Network leading the pack.

Back after I buy some tires, or as southerners used to call them, “casin’s.”

my general take on the last 3 days of the campaign is that the Scary Black Man meme is back in high gear.

I am not a Dowd fan - don't read her regularly at all. But I read her today and the quote that I liked, even more than "Scrooge disguised as a Pickwick", was:

The secretive, ambiguous Romney was desperate for ideological clarity, so he outsourced his political identity to Ryan, a numbers guy whose numbers donít add up.

It seems to sum up the GOP campaign in a Twitter size package. I like it better than the line about Bush I putting his manhood in a blind trust.

Are tweets becoming a form of political Haiku?

This explains why Romney picked Ryan and why the scary black man meme is back. Romney knows from his friends the Koch brothers that the economy is doing some better. He had to retool.

"Dowd calls Ryan 'Scrooge disguised as a Pickwick'."

Ryan is not a Scrooge. He's a stooge.

BTW folks, almost "needless to say" but make sure to head over to any site with BS thrown around (as by Ben Smith) to set things straight.
