So Todd Akin tells Huck listeners he’s staying in. I wouldn’t conclude Blue Girl’s prediction of Akin’s withdrawal is wrong just yet; it will simply be a lot harder to replace him if he hangs around for a while.
In any event, it’s a spicy topic for lunch again today. Here’s more on that and other hot topics:
* Just prior to Akin’s announcement, joint statement issued by Blunt, Ashcroft, Bond, Danforth and Talent—the entire state GOP establishment—urging him to quit.
* In brilliant timing, GOP Platform Committee again rejects rape/incest exceptions to support for Human Life Constitutional Amendment banning virtually all abortions.
* Steve King allows as how he’s never heard of statutory rape or incest victim getting pregnant, either. He’s just saying.’
* Just to make sure not one day will go on without repetition of welfare lie, Romney puts out new web video on subject.
* Man, what impatience! Elliot Abrams calls for force resolution to authorize attack on Iran.
And in non-political news:
* 50-year-old Roger Clemens announces comeback as pitcher for indie minor league team the Sugar Land Skeeters.
Back after some delightful frozen food.

Acid builds in the stomach as I read Ed's news about even more Romney welfare ads. This is a case of, repeat-it-often enough, with millions in ads, and people will believe it. It is a classic Rovian, swift-boat kind of thing. Dastardly. Twain said a lie can get half way around the world before the truth gets its boots on. And that was before the net.
Why is there--you psychologists out there--such a great tendency to believe things we really want to be true--despite evidence? Hate to say it, but you have to admire the right wing's tremendous command of voter psychology. They are really bad at governance--yet really good at getting into voters' heads.

I hope Akins stays in. He is an excellent representative for the Republican's true face. American needs to see it, and reject it soundly.
Republicans believe nonsense and happily make policy based upon it. We can no longer afford that.

Oh great! They are now the proud owners of the Official Republican Cat-Food & Coat-Hanger platform.

1. You have to wonder, that with so little knowledge of womens' reproductive functions, how these guys ever got laid.
2. Old warhorse Roger just wants to play ball -- without worrying about steroids testing.

Here's what I don't get: Akin is saying the exact same thing as the GOP platform, and the exact same thing Ryan and Romney have said (maybe minus the medieval science). Does the GOP think no one will notice?

What Lucia said. Akin is being dumped on by his party leaders for affirming official party policy.

WHY did they ever let Elliot Abrams out of Jail ???
He should be joined there by a large number of Wall Street bankers

I can't see why Akin would listen to the demands of the GOP powers that be as none of them wanted him to be the nominee anyway. I imagine he figures he got the nomination without them, he can win the election without them. I'm not sure he realizes quite how much help he got from the McCaskill campaign, though.
