Don’t know if it was listening to nearly an hour of fine southern rhetoric last night, or just hearing constantly about North Carolina. But I woke up this morning craving BBQ. Not much chance of scratching that itch today, and the ‘cue on the Central Coast won’t make anybody forget Lexington. But here are some midday side dishes, anyway:

* Per Zeke Miller, new RNC web ad of woman “breaking up” with cardboard cutout of Obama would be more effective if she wasn’t a RNC staffer.

* After a week of silence on the “issue,” Romney and Ryan both revived the “Obama gutted welfare reform” lie yesterday. It will be very interesting to see if Clinton’s speech has any impact on their plans.

* Romney campaign and Crossroads GPS pull ads in both Pennsylvania and Michigan. Was this always a feint?

* FWIW, fact-checkers calling Clinton’s many facts and statistics generally accurate.

* Kim K. headed to Charlotte for DNC “after-party.” Anybody think she’s actually watched the convention? Least she can do is write a big check.

And in non-political news:

* ADP report for August suggests private-sector jobs gains of 200k. But ADP often poor predictor of official stats.

Back after some moonlighting and maybe BBQ chips.

My brother lives in San Diego and makes his own BBQ in a backyard smoker. Might fit your blogger lifestyle.

Andrea "Journalist" Mitchell. All she wanted to talk about today on MSNBC was how big a disappointment it was to all Democrats that Obama cancelled the Outdoor Speech....really going to hurt his "outreach".....

What hurts, Andrea, is "journalists" like you who are more worried about what stadium people use than what they have to say. And I forget - remind me what stadium Mitt Romney used for his speech?

Depending on what you have access to, and what you're looking for, you may be able to swing something with just an oven.

A quick google turned up some decent recipes for both Eastern NC-style (my preference) and Lexington style. If you feel the urge, you can make something tolerable and reminiscent in the oven or backyard smoker...

Over at Maddowblog.com, Steve Benen reminds us of Mitt Romney's ability to fill a stadium. Check it out.

Hey, it was just "lighthearted," a jokey way of looking at how a woman would break up with the politician who really supports her interests. What's the matter, can't "you people" take a joke, for Pete's sake?

I don't know which Central Coast you're on, but if it's California's there's excellent barbecue in San Luis Obispo.

DIY on the BBQ, Ed. Do you live in some kind of neighborhood where you can't bring in some blocks and
make a pit to cook a pig? Small smoker then - back porch with a fan to blow away the smoke if you don't want to offend the wine and cheese neighbors.

They aired that ad on one of the morning shows, and it's really creepy, like she's some sort of stalker acting-out a fantasy relationship.

    Hide your pet rabbits.
