October 25, 2012 6:39 PM Day’s End and Night Watch

By Ed Kilgore

Long day’s journey into a nice Central California afternoon, it transpires, so I can’t complain. Here’s what’s left:

* Big batch o’ state polls from PPP, which has been belying its “pro-Dem” rep lately: Obama up 5 in VA, 2 in IA, 6 in WI & 4 in CO. Candidates even in NC.

* Massively deficit-o-centric WaPo editorial expresses “disappointment” with Obama but endorses him anyway.

* Forbes has update on Keith Olbermann’s job hunt.

* At Ten Miles Square WaMo vet and former Oregon Secretary of State Phil Keisling makes case that all-mail-voting (like Oregon’s!) best antidote to voter suppression.

* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer explains ineffectiveness of popular “tuition freezes” that just pass costs on to future college classes.

And in non-political news:

* David Stern to step down as NBA commissioner in 2014, after incredible 30 years in position.

I’m guessing Obama’s Rolling Stone interview will be the big story in the morning unless real news happens. Sorta been there and done that, but may take second bite at apple.

Selah.

As an Oregon resident, I remember when vote by mail was introduced after the 2000 election and I have to say it is fabulous. You get your voter guide and ballot a few weeks before the election so you can take your time, read over the issues (pro's and con's) then vote. You can either drop your ballot in the mail or drop it in one of the many, many drop sites. It makes voting very convenient. There are no long lines at your polling place and you dont have to worry about taking time off work to vote.

perhaps minions for the mendacious one should reverse that massive staff pullout from north carolina. shouldn't be too hard to find the dude and give him a bus ticket back to the tarheel state ...

Nicest day on the planet here in PA.
Think Repubs had a reality check that POTUS is ahead.
Illinois' "Bainport" hurts the shape shifter opponent, Ed Shultz has been on it like a blanket.
Mysogyonist Mourdock has piled onto the Akin/Ryan issue. Women are pissed. Romney ran from the questioning press.
People stop me to hi-five to my Obama/Biden and Save Medicare bumperstickers.

Probably a story in this; vandalism of Obama signs. Some nice GOPer draped a deer carcass on one in Augusta County, VA.

I say "ditto" to Kim K's comment. Same here in CA. Anybody can request an absentee ballot if you prefer to vote at home and send it in. Materials are sent early and there is plenty of time to read over the pros and cons to issues. I voted last week.
