October 03, 2012 9:54 PM Debate Live-Blog III: Third Economic Segment

By Ed Kilgore

* BHO misses opportunity to mention that Paul Ryan author of Social Security privatization proposal.

* Obama very professorial on Medicare. Needs a little more passion.

* Was about to say Mitt back-tracking on “Medicare cuts.” Had to correct himself.

* Pretty good BHO riff on Medicare vouchers. Mitt responds by repeating himself. I also think he’s making a mistake dissing traditional Medicare.

* Mitt making passionate defense of regulation. Conservative heads explode.

* Almost always a mistake to use programmatic language like “Dodd/Frank.” Most listeners figure it’s a brand of hot dogs.

* Don’t think Romney ought to get drawn into extended discussion of bank regulations.

I quit listening because Lehrer did such a crap job as moderator of round 1

  • T2 on October 03, 2012 10:04 PM:

Lehrer is over his head, and Romney must have had a Coke....he's juiced.

  • reddogs on October 03, 2012 10:05 PM:

How many times has Romney bashed Obama over that $716 billion cut in Medicare. At what point is Obama going to point out that Paul Ryan's budget plan includes the very same cut?????

I feel the same way I did more than 50 years ago when I listened on the radio, as a college freshman, to the first Kennedy Nixon debate. I was non committed when the debate started. At the end, I thought that Nixon had won, but I was for Kennedy. Romney is wiping the floor with the PResident. But, I still want Obama to win,

  • Gingerpye on October 03, 2012 10:12 PM:

I don't see that Joanne. I think Obama is more than holding his own.

PBO clearly helped himself on the health crisis and on Medicare. Earlier watching Mitt forced me to grab the channel changer.
Please voters--I don't want Mitt in my living room for the next four years.
I do not think Romney is correct in his statements on what insurance companies already do versus ACA. And he is offering those right wing fibs about bureaucrats (a board) making health decisions for people.
OK--I love that PBO said Mitt is keeping all his plans secret. It needed to be verbalized right here, right now.
And Romney is getting boring, bet people in the audience are glazed over.

    Go Obama.

    Obama/Biden 2012
    Save Medicare
    Vote Democrat

Poor Jim Lehrer.....he has simply become Mitt's bitch tonite. Quite sad.

The MittWit is very Reaganesque tonight . . . flippant, arrogant, grandiose and putting on a good act.
Willard is certainly an effective snake-oil salesman . . . unfettered by any respect for truth or accuracy, he is free to deliver his sales pitch over and over again.
The basic question at the end of the evening is "who do you trust"? For me, it isn't even close. Obama couches policy in principle. The MittWit is willing to say anything to close the sale. I wouldn't buy a used car from Mittens.
