October 04, 2012 3:14 PM Telling A Story Washington Still Needs To Hear

By Ed Kilgore

As regular readers know, we are inordinately proud here at the Washington Monthly of our history, our mission, and the array of fine journalists who got their training and made their bones here before moving on to the far horizons of the profession.

All that history is inextricably connected to the hard work and vision of Monthly founder Charlie Peters, who believed that government could do great things, and that journalism could represent something more meaningful than horse-race coverage, the recycling of spin, and in general, go-along-to-get-along complicity in cynical political games.

Film-maker Norman Kelley has been working for a good while on a documentary about Charlie, his magazine, and the people whose careers he helped launch. We need your help in financing the final editing so that we can get this film distributed and preserve the legacy. Please take the time to go to this site and watch a brief trailer for How Washington Really Works, and then, if you’re so inclined, please make a donation.
