Don’t know if you have the day off, but if you are a veteran, you should. Here are some mid-day morsels for those at work or at home alike:

* Long, long Lizza piece on GOP’s “Hispanic problem” through the lens of Texas Republicans.

* Ari Berman’s brief on why we still need Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.

* Ezra Klein pens an “honor roll” of those who got election right.

* Nate Silver has useful state-by-state chart on turnout as of this morning; PA only sorta-battleground state where turnout almost certainly down from 2008.

* Petraeus scandal and resignation came at really bad time in terms of intelligence operations, says NYT’s David Sanger.

And in non-political news:

* Election of Justin Welby as new Archbishop of Canterbury continues tradition of alternation between Anglo-Catholic and Evangelical wings of Anglican Communion.

Back to blogging in a reasonably short time.

David Petraeus, "the very model of a modern major General" (at least the American variety): a LOSER, like all the rest of them since 1945.

Would you consider Wesley Clark a loser? Or John Shalikashvili?

Petraeus was completely wrong about, and his strategies failed, in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I never trusted him as CIA Director, and I'm glad he's gone. This wasn't exactly the way I would've wanted it to happen, but Se La Vie.

on the "HIspanic problem".....I laughed when I heard Linsey Graham saying he was open to an immigration bill as long as it require immigrants to "speak our language". Naturally, the United States doesn't "own" English, the English do....but it shows just how stupid Graham is. When he thinks "immigration", his mind is really saying Mexican Voters. Graham doesn't apparently understand that lots of people who are NOT Mexicans immigrate here also. Do they all speak "our language"? How's Graham plan on testing the immigrants? Make the testify before Darryl Issa's committee? Or write speeches for Romney?
