Political Animal

By Ed Kilgore

Time to start downsizing the food consumption in anticipation of Thanksgiving Day. But no need for news diet, other than product shortages:

* After much thundering, Rep. Allen West concedes defeat, but as David Weigel notes, could be a prime comeback candidate in 2014.

* In another unresolved House race, Democrat Mike McIntyre of NC faces recount, but still has lead.

* Murdoch’s former British honchos Andy Coulson and Rebekah Brooks being prosecuted for bribery of public officials.

* Stone’s Taibbi has nasty but important story of sex and corruption scandal at SEC.

* Prime Minister of former Israeli ally Turkey calls Israel a “terrorist state” for Gaza bombings. Nadir in a long-deteriorating relationship.

And in non-political news:

* Former Terps hoops coach Lefty Driesell blasts University of Maryland’s defection from ACC to B1G. I’ve been wondering what the Lefthander might think of it.

Back in a jif.

scum like West never lose in their minds....so, yeah, he'll be running again somewhere if he can stay out of jail in the meantime. Face it, they guy just got voted out, based mostly on the fact the electorate saw him as one of the most disgusting examples of a "public servant" you'll ever see. So, realistically, I'm thinking they aren't looking to put him back in two years from now. If they do, they deserve his representation.

Lefty Driesell is a naif. Of course all of big time college athetics is about the money. They don't care about the athletes anymore.

    Sorry Lefty.

SteveT, it's just you (or, at least, not me)

Lefty is still alive? He was the MD coach when I was in HS and when I graduated from UofMD in 1979 (without ever attending a sports event). Did they preserve him in lead or something?

No, its probably not the nadir, which would imply that the relationship has reached rock-bottom and will progress only upward from where it is now. Sure, its a new low, but there's absolutely no sign that the decline has stopped, or is even slowing down.

"Prime Minister of former Israeli ally Turkey calls Israel a 'terrorist state' for Gaza bombings."

Since the Israeli RightWing is a state sponsor of terrorism (and in recent days guilty of documentable war crimes), PM Erdogan is like the child who pointed and said, "the Emperor has no clothes".
