My last post expressed a longstanding and passionate opinion of mine: that the only effective way to deal with the vast amount of politically relevant misinformation that is regularly circulating in this country is not to ignore it or dismiss it but to counter it. Given the amount of money and bandwidth deployed by reactionary special interests to spread their point of view, now more than ever we need regular and efficient vehicles for shedding light in dark places and exploding the myths and delusions that bedevil our politics.
For decades the Washington Monthly has been that kind of vehicle. But its future, like that of every publication where it’s not an option to reach into deep pockets to pay for daily bread, is fragile. If you enjoy the Monthly’s famed features and book reviews, or this relatively prolific blog, please help us avoid the long slide to oblivion that has silenced so many other voices in an era of media consolidation and recession. Click here to make a donation—whatever you can afford—and keep this trusty old friend of a magazine in your life.
