I previously thought it was Jeff Beck on guitar, but recently found out there is some controversy and it may have been Jimmy Page (both friends and studio guitarists early on).

Great song by Donovan and not really anything silly or creepy (or pschedelic) about the video. More like Donovan home movies.
It's time for a Donovan revival! He really had a very nice range, way beyond "Mellow Yellow" and "Sunshine Superman." Try this lovely one about a sailor's wife awaiting his return (or not): "Widow with Shawl":
