February 08, 2013 4:54 PM Speaking of Rand Paul….

By Ed Kilgore

Word’s just in that the junior senator from Kentucky has signed on to deliver a “Tea Party” response to both the president’s SOTU and Marco Rubio’s official GOP response.

And before you can say “phony war,” the MSM is setting this up as reflecting the yawning gap between the Rubio/Rove “establishment” and the True Conservative tribes—once again showing how no matter what happens to and within the GOP, its “center” keeps getting pulled to the Right.

I don’t know what if anything Rubio or Paul will say on international issues; if so they will probably be offering a stark choice between immediate and ultimate war with much of the rest of the world. But on domestic issues, you’ll need a crow-bar to pry them apart.

Wonder if he'll know where to focus his gaze, unlike Crazy Shelly (the Girl with the Faraway Eyes) Bachmann

So, any word yet on who will be giving the Progressive response?

  • William on February 08, 2013 5:59 PM:

Agree with JimR, we need a progressive response as well.

So when the awful day arrives that a GOP president gives the SOTU, will the networks offer the Democrats two responses as well? It would be nice if there was a network with a Socialist bent to provide true balance to what we currently have.

The funny part is that you are paid to write the absurdity that a slimy neoconservative warmonger like Rubio and the libertarian/Taft Republican Paul are alike, even though there are 20 major issues where they flatly disagree, and 10+ major issues where Paul falls well to the left of Obama, and the majority of readers here will be ignorant enough to nod right along.
