At the risk of incurring heavy hipster disdain, I must say I enjoyed three hours of old hippie heaven last night at a performance by the ancient Prog Rock band Yes, which did two long sets of the material that made them famous before they, like many other acts, started becoming a parody of themselves. The audience was relatively old, too, but exceptionally raucous. And I have to say guitarist Steve Howe and bassist Chris Squire have not lost a step in their dotage. Here they are back in 1973 performing, appropriately, “Yours Is No Disgrace.”

Heh. I never much liked Yes. There are a long list of bands that I'm supposed to like, because they sound 'just like' this here band I do like a lot, that my actual response to the suggested band is 'meh'. (I run into this on Amazon & Pandora all the time.) The distinctions may be (or seem) subtle but they often seem quite large to me.
before they, like many other acts, started becoming a parody of themselves.
Often the same band can fail to duplicate the formula they had, and have replaced it with something that often sounds to my ears like Brand X. ('The thing I liked about them was that they did that, but not too much.')
It sounds fickle, but mostly it's just picky.

I've never seen them live, but I suspect I would've enjoyed the show, too. Love the capes in the video!! FWIW, since I find this stuff interesting, former lead vocalist Jon Anderson is a naturalized citizen of the US, and drummer Alan White is a long-time US resident in Washington state.

Yes was a great band up through "Close To The Edge", which I think was their masterpiece.
After that they fell over the edge.
