March 11, 2013 6:11 PM Day’s End and Night Watch

By Ed Kilgore

Interesting how a day with little or no actual political news can sometimes generate plenty to talk about. And I didn’t even have to get into the Fake Krugman Bankruptcy story!

Anyway, here are a few final items:

* Judge blocks Big Sugary Drink Ban in NYC a day before it takes effect, ruling it “arbitrary and capricious.”

* National Review’s Andrew Stiles pens hagiographical piece on trio RCP link headline touts as the “Three Amigos of the Constitution,” Paul, Lee and Cruz. Get used to it.

* The Atlantic’s Andrew Cohen explains in detail how the sequester will slow down already inefficient federal court system.

* At Ten Miles Square, Rhiannon Kirkland examines Marco Rubio’s dubious hip-hop name-checking.

* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer notes we could cover tuition costs at every public college and university if not for our vast subsidies to private institutions.

And in sorta non-political news:

* National Catholic Reporter’s John Allen provides detailed profiles of the three American cardinals who have some chance of becoming Pope.

Okay, one final dose of Prog before we move on to other kinds of music the rest of this week: here’s the current lineup of Yes performing the band’s famous cover of Paul Simon’s “America,” in Tampa last year. The Howe/Squire guitar break that begins at around the 6:00 mark and runs for three minutes remains phenomenal. Wish the boys had performed it last night, but can’t have everything.

Selah.

Paul Ryan's ridiculous, unrealistic and cruel, human being crushing budget needs the harsh light of day.
Even former budget director for Bush, Jim Nussle, says "Chairman Ryan coming out saying one of the marquee issues in the budget is going to be the repeal of Obamacare: I think we fought that battle. I think it’s over and it’s been over for some time. Good luck with that one. That doesn’t make it any more realistic.”

Yeah, Ryan. Take away from seniors, the poor, disabled and disadvantaged because your austerity hero Ayn Rand proposed that helping others was immoral.
Of course as a Catholic, Ryan isn't supposed to worship idols and he is over the top in disregarding "what would Jesus would do."
Hope the nuns on the bus get involved again.

Since Paul Ryan is so concerned about the cost of people getting Medicare, Social Security and programs for the disadvantaged--- has he given up his free (tax-payer paid) health care, prescription card, untold other benefits and lucrative pension that he gets from his cushy gig in the House of Representatives??????

Anyone else tired of Ryan's perpetual smirk?

Didn't voters say NO to Ryan's ilk?

...love what major contributor Joy Reid said yesterday on Chris Matthew's Hardball about Ryan being called "smart"....
"Ryan is a dumb person's idea of what a smart person is..."

IOW, just as the beverage industry intended: too many exemptions for too many places (built-in at their insistence) yields "arbitrary and capricious" legislation. Poke enough holes and it won't hold water.

    @jkl; - ABSOLUTELY.

Well, in the movie, the Three Amigos were a bunch of clueless phonies who had no idea what they were doing. So I suppose that's an accurate assessment by NRO.
