Yesterday in passing Kathleen Geier mentioned the Sir Douglas Quintet, which fired up my memory banks. Here’s that iconic Texas band performing “She’s About A Mover” on Hullabaloo in 1965.

One of my all-time favorite bands, now sadly neglected. Thanks.

Doug Sahm was a great entertainer who continued to tour with whatever band he could keep together until his death in 1999. I saw him for the last time about a year before that in a tiny club in a suburb of Brussels Belgium with about 200 people in the audience on a Sunday night. He had a great band with him and they rocked on for more than three hours, doing every audience request and just generally turning the night into an amazing party. That was his typical show. He didn't get rich but he loved making the music.
