Political Animal

If you like political humor (and what Animal doesn’t?), you should check out the pilot episode for a new series being produced by Amazon Studios called “Alpha House” about four Republican senators who share a “man cave” in Washington. John Goodman’s the star, and the writer is Garry Trudeau. But I’m more interested in it because the executive producer is Jonathan Alter, an old friend of WaMo (he wrote a notable piece on Republican efforts to gin up “Obama scandals” for our November/December 2011 issue). Alter also has a new book coming out on the 2012 elections (The Center Holds: Obama and His Enemies).

I’ve watched the pilot, and long ago I might have thought it was a bit over the top. Nowadays, though, with reality and parody converging, it’s not too far from what we all assume about the private lives of Republican senators. There’s a cameo at the end by Stephen Colbert you definitely need to see.

There was congressman Tom Feeney's refrigerator.

Caught this over the past weekend - had to watch it on my desktop because I couldn't stream Amazon Prime through my Apple TV (granted, no surprise). That said, a terrfic casting surprise is Clark Johnson from 'Homicide: Life on the Streets' -- overall, found it to be very funny -- especially the whole 'Say No to Sodomy Award' sequence.

Hey, thanks. Enjoyed that very much. Also loved the cameo at the beginning!
