June 06, 2013 5:39 PM Day’s End and Night Watch

By Ed Kilgore

A bit of a rollercoaster of a day, but pretty much a steady bummer at the White House, I’d guess. We’ll have to see if tomorrow’s May Jobs Report changes anything.

Here are some final items of the day:

* House passes Steve King bill prohibiting funds for administration’s “DREAM Lite” immigration enforcement initiative.

* NY Times editorial sharply criticizes Obama on NSA collection of Verizon numbers, saying his reassurances on civil liberties have “lost all credibility.”

* CAP formally drops involvement in “grand fiscal bargain” negotiations, citing diminished deficits.

* At Ten Miles Square, Seth Masket presents some fascinating data on state legislative ideological polarization. Turns out California may be the most polarized.

* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer reports community college completion rates even worse than we thought.

And in non-political news:

* Longhorn Network really not working out for Texas football fans or opponents.

Let’s close the day with Steppenwolf’s second-most-famous song associated with motorcycles: “Screaming Night Hog,” performed in 1970.

Selah.
