June 07, 2013 5:49 PM Day’s End and Weekend Watch

By Ed Kilgore

Still a little bummed from the subject-matter of the last post, and bummed additionally by another week when I managed to save some of my best writing for a late Friday afternoon. Thanks to those of you still reading. Here are some final items of the day:

* Market “jitters” alert: Fed said to be considering “tapering” of stimulus efforts at policy meeting on June 18-19. But I’m sure Congress will pick up any slack, right?

* CDC warns of growing number of deaths from ever-increasing summer heat waves. That’s depressing; let’s drive our cars some place cool!

* Marco Rubio continues to zig & zag: he wants us to know he did not help draft the Cornyn Amendment that would gut the Gang of Eight immigration bill, but might support it anyway.

* At Ten Miles Square, James Wimberly discusses a new report from Australia showing all-renewable electricity feasible there.

* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer notes high levels of student debt in tuition-free Sweden, a reminder that living costs are part of the problem.

And in non-political news:

* NBA Finals finally here, which means season could be wrapped up well before Independence Day!

Ah, time to lighten up and ease into the weekend. Kathleen Geier’s back in for Weekend Blogging. Here again are the beloved B-52s, performing “52 Girls” in NYC last year.

If you didn’t start dancing, try this:

And if all else fails, there’s this, live from the Classic City, where all the divine madness started:

Selah.
