167 years ago today, during the Mexican War, a U.S. naval captain occupied the Yerba Buena, later renamed San Francisco.

There are plenty of songs about the City by the Bay, but let’s start with the 1968 hippie classic “San Francisco Girls,” from Fever Tree.
