July 23, 2013 9:25 AM Naming William and Kate’s Boy: Some Suggestions from Across the Pond

By Paul Glastris

So it’s a boy for Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. The next step, says CNN, is picking a name for the third in line for the British throne: “Many bets are being placed as the wait continues for the baby’s name to be announced. British bookmakers Ladbrokes have James as favorite, followed by Henry and George, Philip, Alexander and Richard.”

Those are all stand-up names. But they’re also rather conventional, and a bit dated. We Americans tend to have a wider aperture when it comes to naming our children. So as a gift to the royal couple, the Washington Monthly would like to offer a list of popular American boy names for consideration (readers are encouraged to suggest more names in comments):

Jacob
Dylan
LeBron
Austin
Bo
Juaquin
Hunter
Damien
Kyle
Slater
Doug
Tupac
Blake
Cody
Donte
Roscoe
Liam
Akil
Tyrone
Garth
Brandon
Deon

Tommy Lee
