By Samuel Knight

*A legal battle is emerging over the Detroit bankruptcy filing. A county judge ruled that the move was unconstitutional on Friday, but the city had already filed for bankruptcy in Federal court, potentially making the judge’s ruling moot [via Detroit Free Press].

*Aurora, Colorado marked the one year anniversary of James Holmes’ movie theater shooting spree. The massacre claimed the lives of 12 people and wounded 70 others. NPR reports that his trial is progressing at a glacial pace because the prosecution is seeking the death penalty, while Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

*A wave of car bombs in Baghdad killed at least 30 people today.

*Finally, you want to see this video of an Italian man attacking slot machines with an axe [via the Guardian] because of course you do.

Enjoy your Saturday night.
