If you’ve been watching the New York mayoral contest, you probably know that Christine Quinn, who has been struggling to hang onto a lead, managed to snag the endorsements (for the Democratic nomination, at least) of all three of the city’s big daily papers: the Times, the Daily News, and the Post. She already running an ad on it, entitled “It’s Unanimous.”
It’s unsurprising that Quinn only featured content from the Times endorsement, the one most likely to have an impact on Gotham liberals. And I doubt too many Democratic primary voters read the Post. But I guess the “unanimous” tag line is worth proclaiming.
Meanwhile, a candidate who has been almost eclipsed through much of the primary battle, Bill Thompson, has responded to indications that he is losing a big chunk of the African-American vote to Bill de Blasio with a new ad that blasts de Blasio for claiming he’s not really opposed to NYPD’s stop-and-frisk policies and notes he has “lived it” as a black man.
And to think: not that very long ago the supposedly big issue in this race was whether Anthony Weiner deserved a second chance.
As the primary heats up, what’s most obvious is that Democratic mayoral nominations will be worth a great deal more in the post-Bloomberg era.
