Last time I blogged here — which wasn’t that long ago, but seems like a thousand years — I memorialized Lou Reed. Since then, I’ve been making my way through his solo work, music I hadn’t given a serious listen to in years. Much of it holds up amazingly well, including late works (Set the Twilight Reeling) and efforts that were dismissed at the time of their release (Mistrial).
Next week will see the release of a remastered box set of the Velvets’ seminal second album, White Light/White Light. Included will be a complete recording of a 1967 show the band performed at The Gymnasium in New York City, featuring the song below. It’s a smoking hot version of a killer song the Velvets never officially recorded, “I’m Not a Young Man Anymore.” Previously, it had been available only on bootlegs. Enjoy!
