So having rattled the cup loudly and frequently last month, I want to report to PA readers the results of our 2013 fundraising drive: 497 donations for a total of $25,596. The dollar amount is up by 34% from last year, and the number of donors is up by 22%. All in all, it’s our best results from the annual fundraiser since 2007, when Kevin Drum’s cats apparently went all in to tug on everyone’s heart-strings.
I realize the dollar amounts here seem puny at a time when Ezra Klein has reportedly asked for an “eight-figure” investment in a new subsite at WaPo. But our typical donation is about $50, and for many of our readers, that’s a real sacrifice. And by the same token, I can assure you WaMo operates on about as tight a budget as you can imagine. Not a dime will be wasted.
To those who donated in December, I just can’t thank you enough. And to those who didn’t, thank you for putting up with the daily fundraising pleas.
