By Ed Kilgore

I noted earlier this week that the Kansas Senate’s decision to put a hold on the Kansas House’s draconian “religious liberty” bill reflected less a red light than a strategic retreat to come up with a more defensible draft.

Turns out Arizona Republican legislators may have landed on what they consider the “sweet spot” for legitimizing religious-based discrimination even faster than the Kansans, as the Senate has passed a bill avoiding any public employee exemption or any specific sanction for discrimination in employee benefits. And the Arizona House is poised to pass a similar bill today. Zoom zoom.
