February 18, 2014 9:58 AM Last Relaunch For Jindal?

By Ed Kilgore

I make fun of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal pretty often here, but in all seriousness, the man’s latest national gambit as the champion of “religious liberty” as defined by Duck Dynasty stars and Hobby Lobby has an air of desperation about it. So I put Jindal’s serial efforts to get out of Louisiana (where he’s not exactly a beloved figure) and onto the yellow brick road to the White House together, and wrote it all up for TPMCafe.

When you look at his career in context, Bobby’s kind of a sad, if not very sympathetic, figure. As I noted in the column, he’s sort of been shoe-horned in the national media into a Republican diversity story interchangeable with that of the decidedly non-cerebral fellow-Indian-American Nikki Haley of South Carolina. That’s got to drive Jindal crazy. No wonder he’s frantic to make a distinctive mark, even if it’s by trying to out-Bible-thump Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum and Rick Perry and Ted Cruz.
