I realize that many of you were expecting to see Martin here this morning, as Ed announced. But there’s been a bit of a mix-up and I’m on duty instead. I’m sorry to disappoint Martin’s fans, but he’ll be back next week.
Meanwhile, here’s a video from the new Dum Dum Girls album, Too True. If you don’t know the Dum Dum Girls, they are an LA-based band that combine the DNA of the Ronettes, the Velvet Underground, and the Jesus and Mary Chain — yes, they are exactly as wonderful as that sounds. The new album, like their previous recordings, is produced by Richard Gottehrer, whose career as a songwriter and producer was launched with the snarky girl group classic my “My Boyfriend’s Back” in 1963, and who went on to produce Blondie and The Go-Gos, among many others. This video of their song “Lost Boys and Girls Club” has Goth-y production values that are completely over the top. Enjoy!
