March 24, 2014 4:58 PM Preventing the Corporate Takeover of Legalized Cannabis: An Event

By Ed Kilgore

If you’ve read the new issue of the Washington Monthly, or followed our brief summaries of articles here at PA, you know we’ve tried to look beyond the current rising tide of support for legalized cannabis to ask some tough questions about who controls this new industry and how it will effect public health and other public interests.

To keep the conversation going, this Friday WaMo is cosponsoring a live event in Washington with the New American Foundation, entitled The Corporate Takeover of Marijuana: How Not To Make a Hash out of Marijuana Legalization. Speakers will include two authors of articles in the WaMo package on pot legalization, Mark Kleiman of UCLA and Jonathan Rauch of the Brookings Institution. Others participating in the panel are Alison Holcomb of the Washington State ACLU and Sue Rusche of National Families in Action.

If you would like to register to attend the event (at the New America Foundation from 9:30 - 11:00 AM) please click here. It will also be available via PA on streaming video. We’ll remind you of the event later in the week, but please mark you calendars. Nowhere is this subject being discussed with greater attention to how rather then if marijuana will be legalized.
