April 04, 2014 4:49 PM McCutcheon As New Obstacle to Gender Equity in Politics

By Ed Kilgore

Last year at a guest post here at PA, Anne Kim observed that for all the progress women are making towards equality as elected officials and candidates for office, they are making less progress in their representation in the ranks of campaign donors. Today at Ten Miles Square, Kim observes that this week’s McCutcheon decision, by abolishing the aggregate limits on contributions from existing donors, could exacerbate the gender disparities.

Women as candidates, however, or as officers for party committees, may well benefit from McCutcheon. But at this point, the small club of super-donors is likely to get even clubbier.
