May 26, 2014 2:38 PM “That’s All They Do Is Compromise”

By Ed Kilgore

I have some surprising news for those of you who think the problem with American democracy is that the spirit of compromise has died; that the fanatics of the Left and the Right are slugging it out remorselessly, pandering to their “bases,” and refusing to sit down and work things out.

One of America’s most prominent religious leaders says that’s all an illusion. In remarks made in Our Nation’s Capital over the weekend, he said: “This city we’re in—that’s all they do is compromise.”

The catch here is that he wasn’t very happy about this assessment:

No compromising for the Rev. Franklin Graham when it comes to gay people, whom he loves so much that he feels obliged “to warn them that if they want to continue living like this, it’s the flames of hell for you.”
