Political Animal

News really slowed to a crawl this afternoon, but GOPers still didn’t take opportunity to congratulate the president for taking the Benghazi! ringleader into custody. They must’ve been on one of their retreats, eh?

Here are some remains of the day:

* The Atlantic’s Derek Thompson says measuring reader interests shows that demands for more serious news coverage are a crock.

* Ta-Nehisi Coates appears to nail Walter Williams for verbatim recycling of old column opposing reparations.

* House GOP organizing confrontation with Obama over emissions regulations.

* At Ten Miles Square, Jonathan Ladd notes that few if any Democrats would support any hypothetical Obama deployment of ground troops to Iraq.

* At College Guide, Rachel Fishman examines Starbucks’ plan to make college “kinda sorta free” for some of its employees.

And in non-political news:

* Mexico holds Brazil to scoreless tie in World Cup.

As we close shop for Tuesday, here’s one more non-Top-40 cut from Exile on Main Street: “Ventilator Blues.”
