June 13, 2014 5:48 PM Day’s End and Weekend Watch

By Ed Kilgore

Looks like I’ll be heading back to Georgia for a bit on the first day of summer. This weekend might be a good time to soak up some wind and fog.

Here are some remains of the day.

* Idaho’s unlikely Puerto Rican Tea Party firebrand, Raul Labrador, announces for House GOP Minority Leader.

* Obama rules out ground troops but suggests other military options for Iraq remain on table.

* At the Plum Line, Paul Waldman provides a quick refresher course on all the ludicrous things John McCain’s said about Iraq over the years.

* At Ten Miles Square, Martin Longman offers a partial defense of Sore Loser laws of the type that keep Eric Cantor from running as an indie this November.

* At College Guide, Laura Bornfreund calls for a new focus on what happens between pre-K and grades 3-12.

And in non-political news:

* Holland rolls over defending World Cup champion Spain 5-1.

That’s it for the day and the week. D.R. Tucker and David Atkins will be back for Weekend Blogging. Let’s close Friday 13th with the Pixies performing “Number 13 Baby.”
