Aside from the extremist positions she staked out to win the IA GOP SEN primary on June 3, there’s always been a feeling that Joni Ernst might not have the most tightly wrapped campaign. Case in point: it took national publicity to get her husband to take down nasty, sexist Facebook posts calling Hillary Clinton a “hag” and Janet Napolitano a “traitorous skank.”
It really amazes me that in the extensive runup to her Senate candidacy, someone, whether it was the NRSC or her own consultants, didn’t inform Gail Ernst, if necessary by registered mail, that his first amendment rights were suspended for the duration of the campaign, and maybe for the rest of his life. If it was really, really important to the guy to say this sort of thing to express his contempt for women, or liberals, or liberal women, and the vast industry for such hateful atavistic crap didn’t supply enough vicarious relief, then for God’s sake, he should have gotten a pseudonym and a blog, or just gone into his back yard and screamed now and then.
If I were a Republican, I’d cast worried looks towards the Ernst campaign every day until November.
